Very few practices assess the engagement levels of their employees and, even for those that do, not all ‘engagement surveys’ are effective in measuring actual engagement and producing actions that drive improvements in performance. Yet research repeatedly shows that employee engagement goes hand-in-hand with higher levels of performance.
Since leadership and line management are critical in enabling engagement, it is important for anyone in a leadership role to understand what engagement is (and isn’t), how they are engaging their colleagues, and what strategies and interventions they can undertake to further improve engagement within their teams.
In How to Engage your Team and Why lecture session at SPVS VMG Leadership and Management Congress, 13-14 May, Chris White, VMG & Vets4Pets will draw on his experience and studies to explain what employee engagement is and why it matters so much, what its relationship is with other work-related psychological constructs such as motivation and wellbeing, and suggest some practical ideas to take forward into the workplace.
Chris has worked as a senior manager within the veterinary sector for the past 14 years for a variety of veterinary groups and practices and is qualified at Master’s level in both Business and Human Resources.
