James Westgate of VBJ reviews Congress
Here’s what James Westgate Editor of VBJ had to say about this year’s Congress …
‘I attend many veterinary events and congresses throughout the year, but I don’t mind admitting that VMG/SPVS Congress is the one I look forward to most.
Cynics will assume this is simply because the two-day event is held in the salubrious environs of The Celtic Manor Resort – and I will admit this does nothing to diminish its appeal.
I like nothing better after a hard day news gathering than loafing in the sauna while contemplating a few leisurely lengths of the stunning Romanesque pool.
In reality, however, VMG/SPVS Congress could be hosted in the Bates Motel and I’d still sign up for a ticket – albeit with certain reservations around the shower arrangements.
The reason? Simply put, nothing else in the calendar comes close to delivering the things I need most as editor of the UK’s only veterinary business publication – top content and new contacts.
This year’s event delivered plenty of both, with a superb lecture programme that covered everything from starting out in management, to making the most from the latest developments in telemedicine.
For me this is meat and drink, but it is not just the lecture programme that delivers; VMG/SPVS also make sure plenty of opportunities are available to mingle with like-minded people – from representatives of the companies that serve the sector, to new graduates, business owners and practice managers.
There were certainly plenty of them this year, as a record 510 delegates confirmed that Europe’s largest congress dedicated solely to veterinary business continues to go from strength to strength.
Of course, it is tough to keep momentum and stay relevant in such a dynamic sector, but my money’s on the good people behind VMG/SPVS Congress making sure their event remains the hot ticket for many years to come.’
